CNA Training is Affordable

June 17, 2015

The other day I was speaking to a gentleman who asked me how much it cost to attend my training program.  I told him it was $650.00 for a four-week course.  I thought he was going to fall out of his chair!  He said, “Do you know how much it cost to go to barber school?”  I said “No, how much?”  He stated he recently checked in to going to barber school in Arkansas and that the cost was $15,000.  I was not surprised.

I am also not surprised to find that the most hits I receive on my PAL C.N.A Training Academy Facebook page are related to the post about financing.  I understand that money is hard to come by and times are tough.  PAL C.N.A. Training Academy does offer an in-house payment plan to help people pay the cost of tuition for attending this program.  We recently have offered our students financing through the Arkansas Rural Endowment Fund which is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are attending training programs that do not participate in the Federal Stafford Loan Program.  Information about this fund is posted on our Facebook page.

When you look at the cost of attending college compared to attending a training school, there is a vast difference.  The University of Arkansas recently posted the cost to attend their university was $19,000 to $30,000 per year depending on whether you live in or out-of-state, and this does not include other fees such as dorm fees (University of Arkansas Enrollment Services, 2015).  The University of Arkansas at Fort Smith boasts the lowest tuition rate at $3192.00 per year (Arkansas In-State Tuition Ranking, 2015).

College is not for everyone.  Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training programs are offered at several colleges and universities throughout the state of Arkansas, but at PAL C.N.A. Training Academy you do not have to go through the hassle of registering for college.  However, you must have a high school diploma or a GED in order to attend this program.  We also have provided information on our Facebook page to help you obtain your GED.  Having a GED is very important if you want to progress in the healthcare field.

In closing, I wanted to mention an article I recently came across on the Internet that warned people about taking CNA courses from private schools because of the prices they may charge for tuition.  I found this to be very disturbing in light of the tuition prices I just mentioned here to go to college.  Most people cannot afford to go to college and sign for school loans that will take the rest of their lives to pay off.

You might also be tempted to train at facilities that offer “FREE” CNA training.  Nothing is Free!  These nursing facilities will have you sign a contract that requires you to work a certain amount of time, and if you break that contract, you are required to pay back the cost of the training.  In most cases, that will be much more than the $650.00 that PAL C.N.A. Training Academy charges for their course.

This school is approved by the Office of Long-Term Care and is accredited by the Arkansas State Board of Private Career Education.  After completing CNA training, you will be eligible to work in hospitals, doctor’s offices, hospice, home health, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes.
