Program description

This course provides a comprehensive investigation of heart rhythm disturbances that occur within the chambers and conducting tissue of the heart. The class is divided into three modules that support a systematic review of arrhythmias in the atria, AV junction, and ventricles.

Course material is designed to maximize understanding through electrocardiogram rhythm-strip analysis that reinforces the theoretical component. Students also apply these concepts through laboratory practice, including hands-on electrode placement and 12-lead ECG interpretation.

This is a 116-hour course that includes 16 lab hours focused on lead placement, strip identification, and monitoring, plus 100 hours of theory and core content.

Enrollment payment

  • At enrollment: pay $545.00

Second payment

  • Week 2: pay the remaining balance of $400.00 at the beginning of the second week of class
Important: Payments not received by the due date may result in the student being withdrawn from the program and forfeit of the non-refundable fee, unless prior arrangements have been made with the administrator. Students who are dropped for non-payment will not be permitted to join a future class to make up missed time. To re-enroll, the full course tuition and fees must be paid again in full.

Testing

Certification testing is completed through NHA. Each student will use their NHA account to schedule an exam date, select a testing location, and submit required testing fees directly through the NHA platform.

Prerequisites & class supplies

Registration requirements

EKG students must provide proof of a high school diploma or GED on the first day of class. Students are also required to submit documentation of a negative TB skin test or chest X-ray completed within the last 12 months. During flu season (October through March), proof of a current influenza vaccination is required before clinical activities begin.

All students must complete a criminal background check and a 9-panel drug screen. Testing may be completed through First Choice Drug Testing and Occupational Health Services Inc., located at 6400 Scott Hamilton Dr, Little Rock, AR 72209. Sponsored students will receive required forms when picking up books. Non-sponsored students are responsible for all costs related to background checks, drug screening, flu vaccination, and TB testing.

Background screening & eligibility. Due to the sensitive nature of the healthcare field, certain criminal offenses will result in permanent disqualification from both attending PAL CNA Training Academy and from future employment as an EKG technician in Arkansas. They include, but are not limited to:

  • Capital murder; murder in the first and second degrees; manslaughter
  • Kidnapping; robbery and aggravated robbery
  • Battery in the first degree; rape and sexual assault; incest
  • Endangering the welfare of a minor; adult abuse
  • Theft; arson; burglary; and certain drug offenses

Class supplies

Students are expected to report to clinical and skills lab sessions fully prepared with the required materials, including a notebook, pens, and highlighters for note-taking and study organization. Additional course-specific guidance is reviewed at orientation and during the first week of class.

Enrollment & associated fees

Students who wish to enroll must complete an online application that includes a valid start date. While we may reach out after receiving your application, it is your responsibility to contact us to submit payment no later than the Friday before your selected class begins.

Submitting an application does not reserve your seat in the program. To guarantee placement, we strongly recommend submitting either the full tuition or your first installment (if using the payment plan) immediately after applying.
